Surat: The city police have formed several teams to track down a 23-year-old female teacher who allegedly eloped with her 13-year-old student on Friday. The teacher, who taught the boy both at school and in a tuition class, lived in the same housing society in the Magob area under Puna police station.
According to the complaint, the boy’s family hails from Rajasthan, while the teacher is from Mehsana. They lived in the same building, the teacher on the third floor and the boy’s family on the second floor. The teacher had been tutoring the boy for the past three years.
On Friday afternoon, the boy, a Class 5 student who had been on holiday for the past 10 days, went outside to play in the society but did not return home. His family then began searching for him. After reviewing CCTV footage, the boy was spotted with the teacher near a housing society. The family then visited the teacher’s house, where her family informed them that her phone had been switched off and that she had left home around 2 pm.
Unable to find the boy, the family reported the incident to the Puna police station early Saturday morning, which filed an abduction case under BNS 137(2).
The police have formed multiple teams to investigate the case. The pair was last seen on CCTV at Surat railway station around 5 pm on Friday, after which the teacher switched off her phone.
DCP (Zone-1) Alok Kumar stated that police officers are also in contact with both the teacher’s and the student’s families to understand why they left together. The police are examining all angles in this abduction case due to the significant age difference between the boy and the teacher.
It is learned that the teacher had booked a tour package from the Make My Trip website, and further investigations are ongoing. DeshGujarat
