Maximum temperatures dip across Gujarat; 4 °C fall in Ahmedabad
May 05, 2025
Ahmedabad: Rainfall in parts of Gujarat on Sunday morning brought relief from the heat, leading to a notable dip in temperatures across the state. Ahmedabad recorded a maximum of 37.4 °C, a sharp fall of 4.3 degrees below normal. Notably, on Saturday, the daytime temperature in the city was 41.4 °C. Other cities like Gandhinagar and Deesa recorded 37.5 °C and 36.2 °C respectively, with drops of 4.0 °C and 4.5 °C from the normal daytime temperatures.
Baroda witnessed a cooler day with a maximum of 37.2 °C, while Rajkot remained the hottest place in the state at 41.1 °C, also being the only place in state where the mercury crossed 40 °C. Surat, being a coastal city, was the coolest among major cities with a daytime temperature of 33.3 °C.
While many regions remained dry in the later part of the day, overcast skies and increased humidity were observed. Relative humidity in cities like Daman, Dwarka, and Veraval hovered above 80% during the morning hours today.
The sudden shift in weather conditions across Gujarat on Sunday was attributed to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the northeast Arabian Sea, near the Gujarat coast. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a north-south trough is currently extending from a cyclonic system over central Uttar Pradesh down to southern Tamil Nadu, passing through Madhya Pradesh and cyclonic circulations over north Marathwada and interior Karnataka.
The IMD has predicted widespread rainfall in Gujarat from Monday through Wednesday, with the possibility of hailstorms in several northern regions and parts of Saurashtra. For Monday, isolated hailstorms are expected in districts including Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Dahod, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Chhota Udepur, Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, and Kutch.
