Ambaji Temple Precinct to Be Expanded Up to Gabbar Hill; ₹804 Cr Tender Floated

Ambaji: The Gujarat Pavitra Yatradham Vikas Board (GPYVB) has invited online tenders for a major development project at the Shree Ambaji Mata Temple in Banaskantha district, North Gujarat. Valued at over ₹804 crore, the project involves the expansion and redevelopment of the temple precinct up to Gabbar Hill. According to the tender notice, this initiative is part of a broader master plan aimed at enriching the pilgrimage experience and strengthening infrastructure at one of the state’s most sacred religious sites.

As part of a transformative 50-year master plan, the project aims to integrate key pilgrimage points, including the Ambaji Temple and Gabbar Mountain, into a cohesive spiritual corridor. The project is planned in two phases. Key developments include expanded temple precincts (for both Gabbar and Ambaji temples), a vehicular underpass, multi-level parking, Yatri Niwas (a hotel), and a pedestrianized corridor with public spaces, plazas, and amenity buildings. This plan aims to preserve the spiritual heritage while setting a global standard for pilgrimage sites.

Major components of the project include:

  • A 567-meter underpass, bridges, culverts, approach roads, and parking facilities
  • Multi-level car parking (Basement + Ground + 4 Storeys) with stack parking
  • Yatri Niwas with kitchen and interior fittings
  • Public buildings including shopping haats, museums, galleries, and amenity centers
  • Development of ghats, pedestrian walkways, plazas, and protective infrastructure
  • Sculptures, murals, signages, and other architectural elements
  • MEPF systems (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Safety)
  • Public health engineering (sewage, stormwater systems, underground water tanks)
  • Electrical and lighting infrastructure, HVAC, security systems, and ICT services
  • Landscaping and irrigation works

The project is funded jointly by the Government of Gujarat and the Government of India under centrally sponsored schemes. The execution timeline is 30 months from the date of the work order, inclusive of monsoon and religious periods.

The GPYVB has called upon eligible contractors with “AA” Class and Special Category-I (Building and Bridge) registration to participate. The last date to submit bids and download documents is June 30, 2025. The required bid security is ₹16.09 crore.

Once completed, the project is expected to set a new benchmark for pilgrimage site development in India, combining spiritual heritage with world-class facilities. DeshGujarat
