Vadodara Police recover 17 suspicious number plates from bootlegger’s house

Vadodara: In a major crackdown on the illicit liquor trade, Savli Police raided the residence of notorious bootlegger Dhaval alias Munna Jaiswal and recovered 17 suspicious vehicle number plates. Additionally, in order to send a strong message against anti-social activities, police paraded the accused barefoot through the streets of Savli on Thursday.

The development comes in the wake of a major liquor haul in Savli, where illegal stock worth ₹38.38 lakh was seized. After the operation, Jaiswal, who had fled, was traced to a hotel in Bichhuwada, Rajasthan, and brought back to Gujarat by the police.

During his one-day remand, a search of Jaiswal’s residence yielded 17 number plates belonging to various districts. These included five from Vadodara, two from Rajpipla, two from Bharuch, four from Bavla (Ahmedabad), two from Himmatnagar, and one with an “Applied for Registration” tag.

The police have launched a probe to determine the origin and use of these plates—especially six that were linked to registered vehicles. Investigators are working to identify the owners and verify if the vehicles were used in illicit activities. Authorities are also examining whether any of the plates match vehicles seized without registration during a previous raid by the State Monitoring Cell on May 29.

Meanwhile, as Jaiswal’s remand ended, police sought an extension to continue questioning. However, the court denied the request and remanded him to judicial custody. Separately, the Desar police are now moving to arrest him in connection with another illegal liquor case involving stock valued at ₹39.03 lakh, through a transfer warrant. DeshGujarat
