Gujarat govt begins procurement of moong crop on MSP
June 14, 2025
Gandhinagar: The procurement of summer moong at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) will begin today in Gujarat for registered farmers. The central government has fixed the support price for moong at ₹8,682 per quintal.
According to the third advance estimate for 2024–25, the total area under summer moong cultivation in Gujarat is 55,610 hectares, with an estimated production of 70,870 metric tons and an average productivity of 1,274.27 kg per hectare.
A total of 23,488 farmers across the state have registered on NAFED’s e-Samriddhi portal to sell their summer moong at the support price. Based on the extent of moong cultivation, the state government will procure a total of 17,713 metric tons from farmers under the Price Support Scheme (PSS). Considering the average productivity, a maximum of 1,500 kg of moong will be procured per farmer.
It is noteworthy that the market price for summer moong at various APMC yards is currently around ₹6,772 per quintal. To prevent any economic loss to farmers due to the lower market prices, the state government has decided to procure summer moong at the MSP. DeshGujarat
