Anand Municipal Corporation renamed as Karamsad-Anand Municipal Corporation
July 16, 2025
Anand: Taking into account that Karamsad was the workplace of the Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Gujarat Cabinet has approved the proposal to rename Anand Municipal Corporation as “Karamsad-Anand Municipal Corporation,” said government spokesperson and Minister Rushikesh Patel today.
A meeting of the State Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, was held in Gandhinagar. Sharing details of key decisions taken during the meeting, Minister Rushikesh Patel stated that to enhance public amenities in cities and metropolitan areas, nine municipalities have been granted the status of municipal corporations this year. These include Navsari, Gandhidham, Morbi, Vapi, Anand, Mehsana, Surendranagar-Dudhrej-Wadhwan, Nadiad, and Porbandar-Chhaya.
He further informed that, in response to multiple representations from MLAs, MPs, various organizations, and local residents, the decision was taken to rename Anand Municipal Corporation in order to preserve the distinct identity of Karamsad — the ancestral village of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the architect of Akhand Bharat. Given Karamsad’s historical significance and its inclusion within the municipal limits, the Cabinet approved renaming it to “Karamsad-Anand Municipal Corporation.”
It is worth noting that, as per a government notification dated January 1, 2025, the municipalities of Anand, Karamsad, Vallabh Vidyanagar, and nearby villages were merged to form the Anand Municipal Corporation. DeshGujarat
