Ahmedabad Man Hands Over 34 Credit Cards to Friend, Loses ₹32 Lakh

Ahmedabad: A promise of steady commissions and placing his trust in a friend came at a heavy price for a Ghatlodia resident. The man gave access to 34 credit cards belonging to him and his family and friends to one friend and his associate, who ultimately duped him of Rs 32 lakh.

The victim, a trader by profession, has now approached Ghatlodia police and alleged that his friend persuaded him to hand over these credit cards under the assurance of earning monthly commissions and “financial benefits.” The accused claimed that his associate was involved in a large-scale mobile business and needed short-term credit for the business. Lured by the promise of extra income, the victim handed over a total of 34 credit cards to the accused.

Initially, the arrangement appeared genuine, as for three months the two men paid the trader Rs 7,000 to Rs 7,500 per card every month and also cleared the credit card bills on time.

However, after those initial three months, the accused not only stopped paying commissions but also failed to pay the mounting card bills. According to the complaint, the misuse of the cards resulted in unpaid dues totaling Rs 31.68 lakh, which the trader initially tried to settle by taking another loan. However, overwhelmed by financial and mental stress, the victim finally approached the police, who have now booked two people — Vora and Mehta — for cheating and criminal breach of trust under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
