Ghatlodia PI transferred after viral desi daru adda video

Ahmedabad: Ghatlodia Police Inspector Jagdish Kandoriya has been removed from duty and transferred to the control room under leave reserve after illegal country liquor dens were found openly operating in his jurisdiction.
The action comes after a viral video exposed two large-scale country liquor hubs brazenly functioning in Ghatlodia — the Assembly constituency of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Despite repeated complaints from locals about these liquor dens, they were reportedly allowed to operate under police watch.
With the transfer of Kandoriya, the charge of Ghatlodia police station will now be handled by Vastrapur Police Inspector L. L. Chavda. Meanwhile, senior officials have ordered a strict probe into how such activities continued unchecked in the Chief Minister’s constituency.
Just a day ago, the video went viral on social media after a team of content creators conducted a live sting operation and exposed the dens, allegedly run by local bootleggers Manju Thakor and Shailesh Thakor alias Shailesh Makwana. Residents had complained that the presence of these dens led to rising crime and harassment, especially making it unsafe for women in the area.
When the media team arrived at one of the liquor dens running in Pratik Complex, barely 100 metres from government schools, the bootleggers reportedly tried to block access and, before police could arrive, managed to remove or hide much of the stock. Despite this, crucial evidence of the illegal liquor trade was captured on camera. The report, which showed over 20–30 people openly consuming country liquor from pouches, heavily criticised the Chief Minister and the Ahmedabad police for inaction over the illegal dens.
Police later reached the spot and detained the bootleggers, taking at least one suspect to the police station. However, questions remain about how effective the police action will ultimately be.
Local residents and observers have raised concerns over the state of law enforcement, noting that if such illegal activities can flourish even in the Chief Minister’s own constituency, the situation elsewhere in Gujarat could be worse. The incident has drawn sharp criticism, with many questioning how brazen liquor dens could operate in the CM’s constituency without police intervention — highlighting deeper issues in local policing and oversight.
