6 advanced ticket booking counters launched at Surat Railway Station; over 2 lakh tickets can be booked daily
August 02, 2025
Surat: New Age Generation Passenger Reservation System (PRS) has been implemented at the Surat railway station under the Mumbai Division of Western Railway. Furthermore, the city station has been equipped with six hi-tech counters, which is the highest among all stations in the division.
The New Age PRS is a modern upgrade to the traditional reservation system. The rollout began in April 2024 with training sessions at CRIS, and by July 2024, training had been extended to various divisions. The system is now being gradually implemented at major stations this month.
This advanced system promises passengers an enhanced experience, thanks to features such as an internet booking-like interface, easier navigation, multi-language support, and clear color coding, making it highly user-friendly. Ticket booking, charting, and inquiries can now all be managed from a single screen.
Several new features have been introduced for passengers: access to all available reservation dates, improved travel planning tools, integration of Tatkal, current, and quick booking options into one interface, and the ability to check availability across multiple trains simultaneously. Additional features include seat selection using a seat map, guided charting, access to charts up to two hours before departure, and convenient keyboard operations.
A total of 20 New Age PRS counters have been installed at 14 stations across the Mumbai Division, including Surat, Valsad, Navsari, Vapi, Bandra Terminus, Mumbai Central, and Dadar, among others. Railway officials shared that 389 staff members have received specialized training to operate this new system.
Previously, the old system could process around 25,000 tickets per day. With the New Age PRS, this capacity has surged to over 2.2 lakh (220,000) tickets daily, and the inquiry capacity has expanded dramatically to handle up to 4 million queries each day. DeshGujarat
