To pursue a PhD, one has to form relations with the guide: Ex-student of Saurashtra University

Rajkot: A protest led by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) erupted at Saurashtra University on Monday, demanding the implementation of an entrance examination for PhD admissions. However, the demonstration took a dramatic turn when a former student made a serious allegation.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the woman can be heard telling Vice-Chancellor Dr. Utpal Joshi, “તમને ખબર છે, પીએચ.ડી. કરવા માટે ગાઈડ સાથે સબંધ રાખવો પડે છે.” (To pursue a PhD, one is expected to maintain a relationship with the guide.) The statement sparked outrage, prompting widespread calls for an investigation into the claim.
Following the incident, students and members of the public have expressed support for the woman, urging the university to take strict action against any PhD guide found involved in misconduct or harassment.
In response, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Utpal Joshi stated that the university is treating the allegation with due seriousness. He confirmed that the woman who made the statement is a former student of the university. He also emphasized the presence of a Women’s Development Cell (WDC) at the institution, which is responsible for addressing harassment complaints and taking appropriate action. “If a formal complaint is lodged with the Women’s Development Cell, necessary action will be taken,” Joshi assured.
Meanwhile, State NSUI President Narendra Solanki said that during their representation on the PhD issue, a female party worker shared her grievance with the Vice-Chancellor. He added, “We demand that no guide harass any female student under the pretext of facilitating a PhD.” DeshGujarat
