Ahmedabad: A 36-year-old man from Ivory Coast was detained in Ahmedabad for residing illegally in India using a forged passport and visa. The accused, identified as Mansa Osiris Nwodo, was apprehended from a hotel near Ashram Road in the Navrangpura area after he failed to produce valid immigration documents.
Acting on a tip-off, Prabhat Pankajakshan, an immigration officer with the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO), along with his team and the Navrangpura police, raided Hotel Kadam near City Gold Cinema on May 28. Hotel records showed that Nwodo had checked into Room 321 on the evening of May 27 around 6:45 pm.
During questioning, Nwodo claimed to be a citizen of Ivory Coast and presented a passport. However, he could not provide any valid documents authorizing his stay in India. Initial checks revealed that he did not possess a valid visa and had used counterfeit immigration stamps. Further verification confirmed that the Indian visa number he provided was fabricated.
Based on the investigation, Navrangpura police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Foreigners Act. Authorities are now probing how Nwodo entered the country and whether others were involved in facilitating his illegal stay. DeshGujarat
