Heavy Vehicles Ban on Key Road Linking Mumbai–Ahmedabad Highway

Thane: The Thane traffic police have announced a temporary restriction on heavy vehicle movement along Ghodbunder Road’s Gaimukh Ghat section from August 8 to August 10, 2025, due to urgent repair works. The announcement was made through an official notification issued on Wednesday.

According to the notice, the Kashimira Traffic Division (Zone-1) has informed that major road improvement work—including resurfacing and structural strengthening—is scheduled on State Highway No. 84, specifically at the Gaimukh Ghat stretch. The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation will carry out the work over the three-day period.

To avoid congestion in the Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar belt, and to maintain smooth traffic flow, heavy and oversized vehicles currently using the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway will be rerouted to alternative paths.

Diversion Plan Details:

  • Ghodbunder–Thane Route:

    • Vehicles from Palghar-Virar side via NH-48 heading toward Versova will be stopped at Shirsat Phata.

      • Diversion: Shirsat Phata → Parol → Akoli (Ganeshpuri) → Ambadi.

    • Vehicles from Palghar–Vasai side via NH-48 heading to Versova will be blocked at Chinchoti Naka.

      • Diversion: Versova Bridge → Gujarat NH → Shirsat Phata or Chinchoti route.

  • Thane–Ghodbunder Route:

    • All heavy vehicles moving toward Ghodbunder from Mumbai or Thane will be stopped at V junction and Kapurbawdi junction.

      • Diversion: V Junction → Nashik Road → Kharegaon Toll → Mankoli → Anjurphata.

  • Ahmedabad–Thane/Navi Mumbai Route:

    • Heavy vehicles from Ahmedabad using Ghodbunder Road (via Kajupada or Gaimukh) will be barred entry.

      • Diversion: Manor (Ten Naka) → Posheri → Pali → Wada Naka → Shirish Pada → Ambadi → Bhiwandi.

The restriction, however, does not apply to emergency and essential service vehicles such as ambulances, fire engines, police vehicles, oxygen tankers, and green corridor convoys. Light vehicles are permitted to use the road during the repair period. DeshGujarat
