Gujarat RTOs Restrict Use of Same Vehicle for Driving Tests to 5 Times
August 12, 2025
Gandhinagar: In an effort to curb the use of modified vehicles for driving tests at Regional Transport Offices (RTOs), the Gujarat Department of Transport has introduced limits on how frequently a single vehicle can be used for testing. According to the new guidelines, vehicles with specific registration numbers are restricted to a maximum of five driving tests per month.
There has been a rising number of cases where driving schools and agents rent out cars for tests, sometimes charging fees. Many of these vehicles have been mechanically altered, particularly in the clutch and accelerator systems, to prevent stalling and provide an unfair advantage to test-takers.
“The excessive use of these vehicles compromises the integrity of the testing process,” said a senior official from the Transport Department.
This restriction will be implemented alongside the rollout of the Automated Driving Testing System (ADTS) across Gujarat. This AI-powered system will monitor vehicle usage in real time and maintain centralized data.
According to officials, once ADTS is operational, it will automatically prevent any vehicle from being used more than three times a week or five times a month for driving tests. Vehicles exceeding this limit will be barred from the test track.
The department plans to implement ADTS in all RTOs statewide by the end of the year, with major cities such as Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar prioritized for initial rollout. DeshGujarat
