Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government today announced that from August 14, 2025, farmers in Mehsana district will also receive 10 hours of daily agricultural power supply, up from the existing 8 hours. This extension will benefit around 43,000 agricultural power connections in the district.

The decision was taken during the State Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Briefing the media, State Government Spokesperson Rushikesh Patel said that, as announced in the last cabinet meeting, the daily electricity supply for farmers in Saurashtra has already been increased from 8 hours to 10 hours starting August 9, 2025.

“This farmer-friendly measure has boosted daily agricultural power consumption in the region from 4.4 crore units to 5.2 crore units, benefiting nearly 12 lakh agricultural power connections,” he added.

Providing an update on the Kharif sowing status, Patel said that so far this year, crops have been sown in 74.85 lakh hectares, covering 87.48% of the state’s normal cultivation area of 85.57 lakh hectares. This includes 26.94 lakh hectares under oilseeds, 20.54 lakh hectares under groundnut, 20.58 lakh hectares under cotton, 12.88 lakh hectares under cereals, 8.44 lakh hectares under paddy, 2.72 lakh hectares under maize, 3.48 lakh hectares under pulses, and 8.02 lakh hectares under fodder crops.
