Ahmedabad: After a few weeks of dry spell, the clouds returned to Ahmedabad city this evening, bringing heavy downpours in some parts. Although the weather had been cloudy all day, sudden and intense showers accompanied by thunder and lightning hit the city around 5 pm in both east and west Ahmedabad.

Following Maninagar were Vasna and Maktampura, which received 68 mm and 60 mm of rain, respectively, mostly between 6 pm and 8 pm. Other areas such as Tagore Control, Sarkhej, Sarkhej Urban, and Muni. Corp. also received over an inch of rain.

However, many areas under the civic body saw no relief until 8 pm, as no rain was recorded there. Such areas included Nikol, Ramol, Kathwada, Usmanpura, Chandkheda, Ranip, Bodakdev, Science City, Gota, and Chandlodiya.

As per the AMC, two gates of Vasna Barrage over the Sabarmati River have been opened by 1.5 feet due to an inflow of over 3,800 cusecs of water from the Narmada Canal.
