August 20, 2025
Ahmedabad: Gujarat Police prepared a list of anti-social elements as part of a drive earlier in March. Following this, 750 illegal properties linked to these individuals have been demolished so far, with 650 located on government land, DGP Vikas Sahay said on Tuesday.
Sahay was addressing a press conference after the ‘Monthly Crime Conference’ at Ektanagar in Narmada, where he also stated that 2,190 illegal electricity connections have been disconnected.
He added that the police are carrying out targeted, result-oriented operations to curb crime across the state, with a special focus on taking strict action against usurers to free citizens from the clutches of moneylenders. “In July, 64 cases were registered and 105 people were accused. So far this year, 956 accused have been arrested in 400 cases,” a statement from the Home Department quoted him as saying.
Under the ‘Tera Tujko Arpan’ programme, the police, in coordination with courts, organized 761 events in July to return seized stolen goods to their rightful owners, amounting to over Rs 25 crore. This year, goods worth more than Rs 127 crore have been restored to owners.
Furthermore, citizens were reimbursed an estimated Rs 28 crore in fraud cases handled under cybercrime investigations. DeshGujarat
