August 20, 2025
Gandhinagar: Gujarat witnessed heavy rainfall in several districts over the past 24 hours ending Tuesday morning, with Devbhumi Dwarka’s Kalyanpur taluka topping the chart at 273 mm (10.75 inches), according to official rainfall data released on Wednesday.
Following Kalyanpur, Dwarka taluka in the same district received 153 mm (6.02 inches), while Porbandar recorded 100 mm (3.94 inches). Parts of Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Amreli, and Valsad also experienced significant rainfall.
Among other major figures, Mangrol in Junagadh registered 95 mm, Sutrapada in Gir Somnath 85 mm, Jafrabad in Amreli 78 mm, Umbergaon in Valsad 74 mm, and Una in Gir Somnath 74 mm. Moderate showers between 50–70 mm were noted in Kodinar, Veraval, Ranavav, and Mandvi (Kutch).
Urban areas also received decent showers, with Surat city recording 39 mm, Mahesana 39 mm, and Mahuva (Bhavnagar) 39 mm. Meanwhile, districts like Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Bharuch, and Narmada received only light rainfall between 2–5 mm.
The rainfall was widespread, covering most regions from Saurashtra and Kutch to South Gujarat and North Gujarat. However, the heaviest showers were concentrated along the coastal belts of Saurashtra.
Officials have cautioned that continuous downpours in Dwarka, Porbandar, and Junagadh districts may lead to waterlogging and disruption of normal life. Low-lying areas in coastal talukas have been put under watch for possible flooding.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that rains will continue in parts of Gujarat over the next 48 hours, with heavy showers likely in coastal and southern districts. DeshGujarat
