Ahmedabad CP Orders Registration of Migrant Workers Within 7 Days of Joining

Ahmedabad: City Police Commissioner GS Malik has issued a special directive requiring all industrial and private units to register details of their migrant employees, including workers, servants, drivers, cooks, watchmen, gardeners, artisans, and labourers.

The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, comes in light of past incidents involving loot, robbery, murder, and kidnapping in which migrant workers were implicated. Police noted that in several cases, such individuals gained the trust of their employers, monitored their activities, and later committed crimes before fleeing. Some had even sought refuge in Ahmedabad after committing serious offences in other states. Previously, Bangladeshi nationals with forged documents were found working and involved in criminal activities.

To prevent similar incidents during the festive season, the commissioner has directed all industrial units, construction builders, textile and diamond industry operators, as well as private sector establishments, to register full details of their migrant staff online via the Citizen Portal website or the Citizen First mobile app.

Key Requirements

The information to be recorded includes the unit’s name, address, and phone number; the employee’s full name, present and permanent addresses; date of appointment; reference details of the person recommending the worker; and copies of identity proof such as Aadhaar card, voter ID, or driving licence, along with a photograph.

Employers must verify the nationality of their workers and maintain records for inspection by police. Any new employee must be registered within seven days of joining.

Police officers of the rank of head constable and above are authorised to file complaints against employers who fail to comply with the directive. This order will remain in effect for 60 days, from 00:00 hours on 10/09/2025 until 24:00 hours on 08/11/2025 (both days inclusive). Any person violating this order will be liable for punishment under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. DeshGujarat
