Ahmedabad: In a tragic accident late last night in Narol, a couple lost their lives after being electrocuted while attempting to cross a severely waterlogged road on their Activa.
The incident occurred in Maton Gali when the couple, Rajan Harjivanbhai Singal and his wife Ankitaben, tried to cross a road submerged under about three feet of water. They were suddenly struck by electric current, causing them to fall. Following the accident, the fire brigade rushed to the scene, immediately cut off power, and attempted to rescue the couple, rushing them to the hospital. However, both were pronounced dead on arrival, and their bodies were sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem. Narol police have registered the case as accidental deaths.
According to police, Rajanbhai and his wife, residents of Rudra Green Flats near Narol Police Station, were returning from a visit to a relative at LG Hospital when the accident occurred. Their Activa came into contact with live wires submerged in water. Torrent authorities are now inspecting the cables and power lines at the site.
Several areas in Narol, located in Lamba Ward, have been waterlogged due to heavy rains. Maton Gali road has long posed difficulties for commuters, and rainwater drainage problems compounded the risk, leading to this tragic incident. Relatives of the deceased have demanded justice, criticizing authorities for not shutting off electricity despite live wires being exposed on the road. DeshGujarat
