The 2025 clean air survey evaluated 130 cities across India. According to Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), cities were ranked based on various criteria, including efforts to reduce air pollution through solid waste management, road dust control via mechanized sweeping and sprinkling, effective construction and demolition waste management, reduction of vehicular and industrial emissions, adoption of renewable or green energy, and lowering levels of pollutants such as PM10.

Commenting on the achievement, Surat Municipal Commissioner Shalini Agarwal said, “This recognition establishes Surat as a model city at the national level, highlighting its prominent position in cleanliness, air quality improvement, and sustainable development.” DeshGujarat
