Vadodara: The Crime Branch today apprehended Hardik Prajapati, the main accused in the murder of Dipen Patel, from Surat. Hardik had escaped police custody on Wednesday while being brought to court but was tracked down to his sister’s residence in Surat following a tip-off.
Hardik, who was produced before the court in connection with the murder case registered at Harni police station, reportedly fled while in the court canteen under the pretext of getting water. Following his escape, Akota police registered another case and launched a city-wide search, including roadblocks and checks at bus and railway stations.
Late Wednesday night, the Crime Branch received information that Hardik had reached his sister’s house in Surat. A police team immediately proceeded there and arrested him from the residence.
Case Details
Hardik allegedly killed Dipen Patel over a personal dispute related to a love affair. The body was disposed of in a canal, and Dipen’s car was later recovered from the Mahisagar River. During intense interrogation, Hardik confessed to the crime. Investigations also revealed the involvement of his elder brother, Hitesh Prajapati, who has also been taken into custody.
Hardik has been brought back to Vadodara for further questioning. Police are probing his movements after escaping from court and whether he received any assistance in evading capture. Authorities are also investigating if any court staff were involved. The arrest of the accused has brought significant relief to the police after yesterday’s tense developments. DeshGujarat
