Ahmedabad: Rajkot Police have apprehended three members of a Delhi-based gang who were staying in hotels across various cities in Gujarat, searching for PG accommodations on Google, and stealing mobile phones from these PGs.
According to the police, ASI Mahendrasinh Mangalsinh of the Special Operation Group (SOG) had received a tip-off about the gang operating in cities including Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Mehsana. Based on this information, the police arrested Aftab Mohammad Rashid Darzi (Delhi), Mohammad Aman Sheikh, and Mohammad Sakir Mohammad Sabir Fakir (Uttar Pradesh). The trio was found in possession of 29 stolen mobile phones worth Rs. 4.60 lakh. They reportedly sold 15 to 20 stolen phones at a time to a trader in Delhi for prices ranging from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 10,000 per device.
During interrogation, the gang admitted to working for a Delhi-based mobile theft syndicate, with Aftab involved for the past four years. The investigation revealed that the gang would travel from Delhi to various cities in Gujarat, stay in hotels, search for PG accommodations on Google, and steal mobile phones by visiting them early in the morning. They would stay in one city for up to a week, steal 15–20 mobile phones, and then move to another city. Aftab would then return to Delhi and hand over the stolen phones to a person named Sameer, police said.
Police are continuing the investigation to trace other members of the gang and recover additional stolen property. DeshGujarat
