Kutch: A large-scale racket endangering consumer health has been unearthed today in Kutch. Gadodar police raided a factory in the Chitrod area of Rapar taluka, uncovering an illegal operation manufacturing counterfeit Colgate toothpaste. After the raid, the police contacted the company, which confirmed that the products were not genuine.
The accused reportedly used cheap and substandard materials to manufacture the toothpaste, which was then sold in the market as genuine Colgate products, deceiving unsuspecting consumers. Police seized goods worth approximately ₹9.43 lakh, including batches of counterfeit toothpaste, packing materials, and production equipment.
A case has been registered against four individuals: Rajesh Diyabhai Makwana, Suresh Maheshbhai Umat, Natwar Ajabhai Gohil, and Narpat alias Naru Diyabhai Makwana (all residents of Naliyatimba, Taluka Rapar). The charges include fraud and copyright infringement, as well as offenses related to endangering consumer health. Authorities emphasized that the production of counterfeit goods poses serious risks to public health.
Police investigations are ongoing to trace the supply chain and determine where these counterfeit toothpaste batches were being distributed across the state. DeshGujarat
