Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government today signed a new Letter of Award (LoA) with Bajaj Insurance Company under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in Gandhinagar. The renewed agreement aims to ensure greater financial relief and comprehensive health coverage for citizens.
Under the new arrangement, the state government is expected to save approximately ₹1,100 crore annually. These savings will be redirected toward other public welfare initiatives and for strengthening the state’s health infrastructure, an official statement said.
The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana provides health insurance coverage to low-income families. In Gujarat, 1.03 crore families are beneficiaries of the scheme. Previously, the government paid a premium of ₹3,708 per family to Bajaj Insurance Company under the scheme. During Policy-9, a total of 13,60,977 claims amounting to ₹3,657.24 crore were registered.
With the new agreement, the annual premium will now be reduced to ₹2,679 per family, resulting in significant savings for the state exchequer. In addition, Bajaj Insurance Company has agreed to waive the premium for 1.51 lakh newly enrolled beneficiaries, further easing the financial burden on the government.
Officials said the agreement reflects the Gujarat government’s strong commitment to efficient financial management and public welfare. DeshGujarat
