Customer held for tampering with price labels at D-Mart in Surat

Surat: A customer was caught attempting to cheat at the D-Mart store on Sachin-Navsari Road by pasting cheaper price stickers on products he intended to purchase. The store management immediately alerted the police, who arrested the accused.

According to the store, Arshad Imran Sheikh, assistant store manager and resident of Elaf Residency, Rander, received a call on November 12 from his employee, Kundan Lal, reporting suspicious activity at counter number 14. Upon arriving, Sheikh found that the customer had purchased 103 items, many of which had tampered price stickers.

Notably, a DGZ Eau De Parfum Party Night (100 ml), originally priced at Rs 499, had a sticker of Rs 25. Similarly, Kesh King Ayurvedic Oil, priced at Rs 399, was marked Rs 45, while Durex Invisible Condoms, priced at Rs 532, bore a sticker of Rs 65. In total, items worth Rs 1,430 had been tampered with in an attempt to defraud the store of Rs 1,295.

CCTV footage clearly showed the customer removing original price stickers from items inside the store and placing them on other products. Upon questioning, the accused was identified as Kuldeeprajsinh Hanjaram Chaudhary, 32, a resident of 397 Siddhi Vinayak Residency, Bhestan. Investigations also revealed that he runs a medical practice in the Bhestan area.

A case has been registered based on the D-Mart management’s complaint. The accused has been arrested, and police investigations are ongoing. DeshGujarat
