Wedding for ₹11,000: 181 couples to tie knot in Rajkot

Rajkot: In a heartfelt initiative to promote simple and ideal Vedic weddings, the Patel Pragati Mandal (Field Marshal Wadi) organized a gathering at the Speedwell Party Plot for the Kadva Patidar community on the occasion of the New Year. The proposal for Vedic marriages, initially presented as a concept, quickly transformed into a practical plan, receiving overwhelming support from the community.

Within just half an hour of the presentation, 181 donors pledged contributions of Rs 51,000 each, enabling 181 couples to be united through the sacred marriage rites.

Patel Pragati Mandal President Nandlalbhai Mandviya explained that in the current era of costly weddings, the aim is to bring together families from all social strata, minimize unnecessary expenses, and encourage ideal Vedic marriages. The model presented ensures that weddings can be conducted at minimal cost while foregoing expensive rituals, allowing couples to be united through the marriage register.

The Mandal Trustees added that for each wedding, the bride’s and groom’s families will bear only Rs 11,000 each as symbolic contributions. Each family can host 111 guests for the meal ceremony, with the Mandal covering the remaining expenses, ensuring a total of 222 guests per wedding. Participating families will also be provided a 5,000 sq. ft. air-conditioned hall, along with decorations, selfie points, and special facilities for the groom’s entry. The Mandal will also provide drums for traditional ceremonies, cover the cost of priestly rituals, and arrange chairs, tables, and other essentials; families need to bring only the puja materials.

The first weddings are scheduled to be held on 21 November, with two weddings planned per day. Registration for participation has already begun. DeshGujarat
