Surat: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) today announced that it has appointed its first woman bus driver for city operations.
In a press release, the civic body said that Surat Citylink Limited recruited the driver, marking a significant step towards “Women-Led Development” and “Gender-Inclusive Development.”
The driver, appointed by contractor JBM Ecolife Mobility, has over four years of experience in handling heavy vehicles. She is currently operating the BRTS Pink Bus on Route No. 12 (ONGC to Sarthana Nature Park). This initiative not only creates employment opportunities but also highlights women’s competence, talent, and reliability in public roles, the press note added.
The official flag-off of the bus driven by the first woman driver will be held on November 20, 2025, at ONGC Colony BRT Station at 11:00 AM. The event will be presided over by SMC Transport Committee Chairman Somnath Marathe. DeshGujarat
