Gujarat govt approves 6 new DEO offices in key districts

Gandhinagar: In a major administrative restructuring, the Education Department of the Government of Gujarat has approved the division of six District Education Officer (DEO) offices across the state to streamline operations and reduce workload. With this, six new DEO offices will be created.

As part of the overhaul, the DEO offices in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat and Kutch have been split into two units each. Ahmedabad city will now have separate DEO offices for the East and West zones. Similarly, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Rajkot and Surat have been divided into City and Rural jurisdictions.

Meanwhile, Kutch district, which covers a vast geographical area, will now operate with two offices — Anjar (East) and Kutch-Bhuj (West).

Officials said the number of granted and private schools in Gujarat has been rising significantly in recent years, increasing the administrative burden on existing DEO offices. The restructuring aims to improve monitoring, ensure timely resolution of school-related issues, and enhance the overall efficiency of the education administration. DeshGujarat
