Amreli: A tragic incident occurred in Hamapur village of Bagasara taluka, when a lioness attacked and killed a 5-year-old child.
The victim, Kanu Vinodbhai Damor, belonged to a migrant labourer family working as sharecroppers on Ramesh Sojitra’s farm. Kanu was reportedly playing near a water tank on the farm when a lioness appeared and dragged him about 70–80 feet into the tur crop, where the attack resulted in his death. Local witnesses said the lioness tore the child’s stomach, one hand, and part of his ear.
Farmers immediately informed the forest department, and the Amreli Social Forestry team rushed to the site. The area was cordoned off, and the child’s body was shifted to Bagasara hospital for postmortem.
The Forest Department formed multiple teams and captured the lioness, which has been transferred to Sakkarbaug Zoo in Junagadh. Along with the lioness, four cubs have also been rescued. DeshGujarat
