Gujarat govt releases 2026 Public Holiday List; 3 major festivals fall on Sunday
November 27, 2025
Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government on Thursday released the official calendar of public holidays for the year 2026. The General Administration Department (GAD) issued a circular announcing public, discretionary and bank holidays for the upcoming year.
According to the notification, the state will observe 23 public holidays in 2026. However, government employees will not receive the benefit of three major festival holidays, as they fall on Sundays. Maha Shivratri, Parshuram Jayanti and Diwali will all be celebrated on Sundays in 2026, effectively reducing the number of usable holidays for employees.
The circular includes the complete list of public holidays applicable to all government offices across the state.
In addition to public holidays, the government has also notified discretionary holidays for 2026. As per the GAD circular, government employees may avail themselves of any two discretionary holidays from the approved list.
The notification further states that government banks will observe 18 public holidays in 2026. Apart from these, banks will also remain closed on 1 April 2026 for annual account closing. DeshGujarat
