May 04, 2026
Gandhinagar: The Health Department of the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation has implemented the Heat Action Plan 2026 as temperatures in the city are expected to remain high over the next few days. According to the Meteorological Department, the mercury is likely to hover between 41°C and 42°C till May 6, prompting a yellow alert across the city.
Authorities have urged citizens to take necessary precautions, avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours, and seek immediate medical attention if they experience heat-related symptoms.
As per the Health Department, the maximum temperature is expected to remain around 42°C till May 6. Given the prevailing heat conditions, residents have been advised not to step out during the afternoon unless absolutely necessary.
Officials have also outlined key symptoms of heat-related illnesses. A sudden headache, tingling in the limbs, and a spike in body temperature may indicate heatstroke. Other serious warning signs include excessive thirst, reduced sweating, low urine output, red and dry skin, vomiting, dizziness, or fainting.
In such cases, citizens are advised to immediately call the 108 emergency helpline or visit the nearest government hospital. Health experts have cautioned that conditions such as confusion or muscle cramps can also turn life-threatening if ignored.
To stay safe, people have been advised to remain well-hydrated by regularly consuming fluids such as water, lemonade, buttermilk, coconut water, and oral rehydration solutions (ORS). Wearing light-coloured, loose cotton clothing and using umbrellas or hats while outdoors is also recommended.
Additionally, residents have been advised to avoid eating food from open places, refrain from prolonged fasting, and limit strenuous physical activity during peak heat hours. DeshGujarat
