4-km-long Elevated Corridor on SG Highway in Ahmedabad Nears Completion; Likely to Open in July
May 05, 2026
Ahmedabad: In a significant boost to the city’s infrastructure, commuters are set to get relief from chronic traffic congestion on SG Highway, with a new 4-km-long elevated corridor from Sanand Circle to Iscon Flyover nearing completion. The project is expected to be inaugurated around July 1.
Being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹500 crore, the corridor is designed to handle nearly two lakh vehicles daily. Once operational, it will allow commuters to bypass three major traffic bottlenecks, Karnavati Club, Prahladnagar, and YMCA, significantly easing traffic flow on the busy stretch.
To reduce its impact on nearby residential and commercial areas, the elevated corridor will be equipped with a specialised noise-control system to minimise vehicular noise.
For the past two years, construction work had necessitated a 1.5-km diversion, often leading to traffic delays of 30 to 60 minutes, particularly affecting commuters travelling from Saurashtra towards Ahmedabad.
Authorities also plan to close the diversion and reopen the road beneath the flyover by June 1, allowing smoother movement towards Iscon Cross Roads even before the elevated corridor becomes fully operational.
The opening of the corridor is expected to result in substantial savings in travel time and fuel. It will also benefit emergency services, as ambulances—currently delayed due to heavy congestion—will have access to a faster and less obstructed route. DeshGujarat
