LPG Tanker ‘Symi’ Reaches Kandla Port After Crossing Strait of Hormuz

Kandla: A Marshall Islands-flagged LPG tanker, Symi, carrying around 20,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), has arrived at Kandla Port in Gujarat’s Kachchh district after safely crossing the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz on May 13.

The arrival comes amid heightened global focus on maritime movement through the Strait of Hormuz, a key energy route connecting the Persian Gulf to international shipping lanes.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways confirmed that two India-bound LPG carrier vessels successfully passed through the Strait. Addressing an inter-ministerial briefing on the West Asia crisis, Additional Secretary Mukesh Mangal said both cargo vessels were operating in coordination with Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), ensuring safe transit through the critical passage.

Meanwhile, during talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi reiterated that friendly nations could rely on Iran for the safety of commercial movement. In a post on X, he said Iran would continue its “historical duty” of safeguarding security in the Strait of Hormuz and remain a reliable partner for ensuring safe commerce. DeshGujarat
