Announcement of MSP before Sowing Season; Gujarat govt conveys thanks to Centre

Gandhinagar: The Government of India has announced the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for Kharif crops for the 2026-27 marketing season ahead of the sowing period, offering higher returns to farmers and enabling them to plan cultivation in advance.

According to the revised MSP rates approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, significant increases have been announced for key crops including cotton, sesame, tur and groundnut.

Gujarat Agriculture Minister Jitubhai Vaghani thanked Prime Minister Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for announcing the support prices before the sowing season and ensuring remunerative prices for farmers.

The Centre stated that the MSP hike has been decided after considering input costs and the need to provide financial security to farmers. The advance announcement is expected to help farmers make informed sowing decisions for the upcoming Kharif season.

Among the major revisions, cotton MSP has been increased by Rs. 557 per quintal, sesame by Rs. 500 and tur by Rs. 450 compared to last year. Groundnut, considered one of Gujarat’s principal Kharif crops, has received an increase of Rs. 254 per quintal.

The Union Government announces MSPs for both Kharif and Rabi crops every year before sowing begins, allowing farmers to prepare cropping strategies with clarity on assured minimum prices.
