Gujarat Raises Foreign Study Loan Income Cap for Unreserved Students to Rs 10 Lakh

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has increased the annual family income limit for students from the unreserved category to avail benefits under its Foreign Study Loan Scheme from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, in a move aimed at enabling more middle-income students to pursue higher education abroad.

The decision was taken under the Gujarat Unreserved Educational and Economic Development Corporation and is expected to bring more students within the eligibility criteria for financial assistance for overseas studies.

Until now, students from the unreserved category could avail of the Foreign Study Loan Scheme only if their family’s annual income was up to Rs 6 lakh. With the latest decision, the limit has been increased by Rs 4 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

The revision was announced by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel during the Independence Day celebrations last week. The scheme provides financial support to eligible students seeking higher education abroad, helping them meet expenses such as tuition fees, accommodation and food.

The government said the revised income ceiling will allow more students from middle-income families to benefit from the scheme. Students who were previously excluded because their family income exceeded the Rs 6 lakh limit will now be eligible, subject to other scheme conditions. DeshGujarat
