SMC fines Gangaur Restaurant ₹25,000 after customer finds insect in chole bhature

Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has fined Gangaur Quick Restro ₹25,000 after a customer allegedly found a cockroach in a plate of chole bhature served at the restaurant on Ghod Dod Road.

According to the information, customer Dhaval Patel visited the restaurant to eat chole bhature and allegedly found a cockroach in the dish. Dissatisfied with the restaurant management’s response after raising the issue, he subsequently lodged a complaint through the SMC’s online portal.

Acting on the complaint, SMC officials inspected the premises and found hygiene-related lapses in the kitchen and other areas of the restaurant. The establishment was issued a notice and fined ₹25,000. A sample of chole chana was also collected and sent to a laboratory for analysis.

In a separate action under its festive-season food safety drive, the SMC shut down an unlicensed dairy in Punagam following a complaint about suspected ghee adulteration.

During an inspection at Ramkrupa Dairy Farm in Vikramnagar Society-1, health officials found that the establishment did not have the licence or registration required under the Food Safety and Standards Act. Officials seized around 2.2 kg of suspected adulterated ghee and ordered the dairy to shut down immediately. Samples were sent to a public health laboratory for testing, and further action will be taken based on the laboratory report.

Meanwhile, food samples collected from other establishments across Surat during the festive season have passed laboratory tests. Between October 16 and 18, the SMC Health Department collected 35 samples from 19 establishments, including 13 samples of jalebi, 20 of fafda and two of chutney. All samples were found to comply with the prescribed standards. DeshGujarat
