Court denies bail to Gujarat VHP leader in SMS case
Gandhinagar, DeshGujarat, 4 November, 2008
Gandhinagar court on Tuesday denied bail to Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP) leader Ashwin Patel and sent him to Sabarmati jail.
Ashwin Patel, who is facing sedition charges for circulating derogatory and defamatory SMSes against Chief Minister Narendra Modi and the Gujarat government, was also booked for an offense of forgery. Gandhinagar district local crime branch police produced Ashwin Patel in the court today after his seven days remand ended.
Meanwhile Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and Durga Vahini activists today participated in mass SMS campaign to protest Ashwin Patel’s arrest in SMS case.
In another development, police filed complain against two VHP workers who burnt Narendra Modi’s effigy in north Gujarat’s Deesa town to protest Ashwin Patel’s arrest.
