Gujarat budget offers range of new security initiatives

Gujarat budget 2009-10 presented today, by Finance Minister Vajubhai Vala in the state assembly offers range of new security initiatives for the state that is bordering Pakistan.

Asserting the commitment to fight terrorism, the allocation of budget for the home department has been increased by 69.38 percent this year. Last year it was Rs. 204.65 crore while this year it is Rs. 346.65 crore.

Following are some of the major initiatives that the Government of Gujarat is planning to implement during budget year 2009-10 in security sector.

-Four new Anti Corruption Police Stations:Ahmedabad rural, Surat rural, Rajkot rural and Vadodara rural.

-New Marine Commando unit to come up.

-New posts to protect currency chests in various banks across the state.

-Offices of all department heads under Home department will be computerized through implementation of HD-IITS project at a coast of Rs. 30,00,00,000. This includes BCP site, biometric solution, internal LAN etc.

-11 new Women police stations in Ahmedabad rural, Kheda-Nadiad, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Kutch-Bhuj, Bharuch, Vadodara rural, Surat rural, Valsad, Navsari, Rajkot(total 869 new posts).

-Induction of total 212 policemen in Mundra, Bhachau, Netrang, Nadiad, Dahod city, Kamrej, Olpad, Vyara, Paniget, Vaadi, Vadodara, Karelibag, Navapura, Ravpura, Godhra Taluka.

-Creation of new posts for nine new police chowky/Our Post at Debhari(Kheda), Odgam(Anand), Bhalej(Anand), Amardip(Sabarkantha), Three new chowkies in Sabarkantha’s tribal area, Udhna Railway chowky, Bardoli Railway chowki.

-New police zone to come up in Surat city. New sub section in Gujarat Railway Police.

-Modernisation of Gandhinagar based Forensic Science Laboratory. Computer forensic science section to be started. New FSL in Rajkot. Mobile FSL vans for district and taluka level cases.

-Solar power system in Ahmedabad central jail for cooking, hot water and lighting.

-Ahmedabad, Vadodara central jails and Surat, Rajkot district jails will be coordinated with NID, IIM and EPI for design and marketing profile of jail made products.

-Video surveillance system in Jamnagar, Nadiad, Palanpur, Mehsana district jail and Palara special jail.

-Mid-day meal in Vadodara central jail.

-50 hand-held metal detectors would be bought for all central jails and sub-jails.

-1000 lathis for all jails, two heavy duty generators for Palara special jail.

-New central jail at Lajpor(Surat).

-Army men residence will be built at Vadodara central jail for better discipline.

-203 automated screen system connected sirens in Ahmedabad. 25% coast will be bared by the government of India.

-New Wireless Bhavan will be constructed in Gandhinagar.

-High Mast poll will be erected at Ahmedabad central jail. All jails will have R.O. plants for pure drinking water. Various jails will have live wire over main walls.

-New taluka sub-jail at Anand district’s Anklav. A wall will come up between Ahmedabad central jail and new jail.

-New posts for bifurcated Kutch police district.

-New SRP Battalion at Jamnagar.

-New SRP Battalion at Bhuj.

-Creation of new posts for new police stations at Khatodara(Surat), Punagam(Surat), Amroli(Surat), Adajan(Surat), Women(Vadodara city), Women(Jamnagar city).

-Creation of 13 new teams of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad.

-At present there are two Chetak Commando Units for taking immediate action against terrorist activity, multiple disaster and VVIP security in Gujarat. For strengthening the security of the state it is decided to create two more Commando units.
