Total strike in Junagadh against police assault on BJP MLA

Saurashtra’s Junagadh city is observing complete shut down today protesting against police assault on local BJP MLA Shri Mahendra Mashru. Shri Mashru is presently hospitalized in Rajkot. Junagadh chamber of commerce organized a rally and submitted memorandum to district collector protesting against police assault. A police complaint has been filed against local Police Inspector Mr. Vanand.
Mashru was yesterday assaulted by police in Junagadh’s ‘B’ division police station.
Police had arrested seven women in gambling case from Junagadhs’ Timbawadi based Gokuldham society’s house. However people protested their arrests claiming that policemen were drunk and women were not involved in any kind of gambling activity.
When asked for help by local people, BJP MLA Shri Mashru rushed to the police station. However instead of listening to him, Police Inspector Vanand pushed him while other police staff lathicharged the BJP workers.Mashru said he was beaten by police when he asked not to use force against women. Mashru fell to the ground and later complained breathing problem. BJP workers forcefully entered the police station and took Mashru with them. Mashru has been admitted in Rajkot’s Gokul hospital.
