GIL commissions new 174 Mw Solar PV power plant near Rajkot

Gujarat continues to march ahead in the direction of harnessing maximum potential in Solar power sector.
A leading renewable energy-focused power generation firm Green Infra Limited (GIL) today commissioned its first 10 Mw solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Mervadar village of Rajkot with an investment of Rs 130 crore.
Incubated by IDFC Private Equity funds in 2008, GIL’s this facility has operating capacity of 174 Mw. By middle of next year more 150 Mw will be added by setting up an additional facility. The company plans to reach total generating capacity of 3,000 Mw by 2015 across various renewable energy sectors. Green Infra currently has 164 Mw of operating assets under management in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
According to Shiv Nimbargi, MD and CEO of GIL, Mervadar solar PV plant is expected to generate 16 million units of energy annually, supplying electricity to over 4,000 homes and saving 12,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.
