More Gujarat students are now opting for Science Olympiads

India is hoisting the 10th International Junior Science Olympiads (IJSO) at Mumbai in December 2013 where about 300 bright students of 50 countries will participate – informed Prof. Vijay Singh, the National Coordinator of Science Olympiad at the concluding session of the four days Orientation Programme on Science Olympiads at Science City today.

IJSO is a prestigious world competition normally held for 10 days in the natural sciences for fifteen -year-old students across the globe.

Interacting with the meritorious students of Gujarat who are all set to take part in various disciplines of science Olympiads for the current academic year, Prof Vijay Singh expressed that the aims of the International Science Olympiads are to promote a career in science for talented students and to stress the importance of Science and Technology in our current society. They also provide a great opportunity to compare educational methods and exchange experiences, so that our students can excel for Nobel prize for quest for excellence.

Informing about the Indian students’ outstanding performance in world science Olympiads, Prof Vijay Singh informed that till date no Indian student left from the International science Olympiads without any medal. Each of the Indian students has shown exemplary performance and brought laurel for the country.

Prof. Vijay Singh has all hope and confidents for the students of Gujarat who can represent India at different Olympiads like physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology and astronomy, etc. He has remarked that Gujarat is the only state who has started mentoring and motivating students to take up a career in science. More and more students from Gujarat are now opting for science olympiads in different subjects. He has given high opinion on the various science education, awareness and popularization activities of the Gujarat Science City which is capturing a new height in science literacy.

Science Olympiads which encourage greater contact and cooperation among the secondary students world-wide, is an exhilarating and uplifting movement for students, teachers and the organizers. Keen interest in subject, inventiveness, critical analysis, creativity and perseverance are necessary to tackle the task in the Olympiad.

Gujarat Science City has organized a four days orientation programme on science Olympiads which was attended by the 200 meritorious students who are district toppers in their SSC examination and now in Std. XI science. Shri Ravi Saxena, Additioanl Chief Secretary, DST, Gujarat inaugurated the programme on Thursady at Science City.

Eminent scientists and Faculties including Prof. Vijay Singh, National Coordinator of the Science Olympiads, Dr. D. V. Prabhu, Dean of Science, Mumbai University, Prof. Bharat Chatoo, Professor and Head, Biotechnology Dept, M. S. University, Vadodara, Prof. Udayan Prajapati, St. Xavier College, Dr. Narottam Sahoo. Gujarat Science City and Dr. Vishal Joshi, Scientists at PRL were conducted various interactive sessions to guide the students during the workshop.

It was a great experience for us to learn how to crack the equations, brew concoctions and show our skills to excel in this prestigious international competition and to represent India by showing their physics talents in Copenhagen (Denmark) or chemistry reactivity in Russia, Math-magic at Colombia, amazing Biology in Switzerland and Astronomy wonders in Greece during July 2013 next year – expressed students who are very much hopeful to achieve the success.
