Congress’s EVM allegations baseless:Election Commission

Rubbishing the Gujarat Congress allegations that the electronic voting machines were rigged in Municipal Corporation elections, the state election commission secretary P.S.Shah said the last one hour of civic polls had witnessed three to seven percent voting. The highest voting in last hour was witnessed in Bhavnagar’s one booth, and it was 9.44%. Alleged 15-20% voting in last one hour has not been registered anywhere.
Mr. Shah said, the EVMs were not made by private company of Hyderabad as alleged(by Gujarat Congress leaders), but they are made by Government of India’s venture Bharat Electronics Limited. The machines were procured between year 2004 and 2010. Such machines are used in all Municipal Corporation elections.
Same machines were used in year 2005 for Junagadh Municipal Corporation election, but no complain on its misuse was received. Same type of EVMs were used in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
From polling to counting, at each process, the representatives of both parties are allowed to witness the processes.
