Minority Hindus were asked not to burst crackers, clashes in Khanpur

Minority Hindus in Ahmedabad’s Muslim dominated Khanpur area were prevented to burst crackers on Diwali evening by local Muslims. This resulted into stone pelting between two communities. Police lobbed dozen tear gas shells to control the situation.

The incident happened at around 10.00 pm on Diwali, when minority Hindus of Khanpur’s Bharadiyavas were allegedly asked not to burst crackers by some local Muslims.

This was followed by verbal arguments, after which groups of two communities started stone pelting.

Police lathicharged the rioters, and lobbed dozen tear gas shells to control the situation.

It should be noted here that Khanpur is located next to Shahpur. The locality of Bharadiyavas is communally sensitive area where minority Hindus are attacked at regular interval during Hindu festivals.
