Class-4 employees of AMC run hospitals, AMTS staff on strike

Class-4 staff strike in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) run hospitals continued on second day today. AMC has employed contract workers through private parties at some places. ESMA has been invoked against the strike which makes it possible for AMC to suspend and dismiss the employee on strike. While some operations in AMC run hospitals are postponed, the critical cases are being transferred to state government run Civil hospital. In addition to class-4 employees strike in AMC run hospitals, today Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service(AMTS) bus staff has also gone on strike. This has impacted some traffic of AMTS buses. Some buses are being operated without conductor today. Passengers will be allowed to travel for free in such buses. In view of AMTS strike, additional rickshaws are called from surrounding areas of city. A toll free number has been announced if someone wants to complain about rickshaws charging higher fare. Guardian minister of Ahmedabad city, Shankarbhai Chaudhary said the government is keeping eye on situation and receiving details from AMC. AMTS Chairman Babubhai Zadafia said:

-Some drivers punctured buses at various locations late in the night yesterday.
-The impact of strike was felt upto 10.00 am only.
-Post 10.00 am, AMTS roped in private contractors and started operating 400 buses gradually.
-Buses are operated without conductor and passengers are not charged for journey in conductor less buses today.
-500 buses are on road.
-As per rules, they need to inform us 15 days before about their intention to go on strike, but they have not followed the rule.
-Coordination committee has resolved the issues of staff three months back.
-The staff of AMTS has gone on strike just to support the strike of class-4 employees that include sweepers.

Update:

-Class-4 Nokar Mandal president Pathan said that pumping house, drainage and central workshop employees will also join the strike one-by-one.
-Individual notices are served to each of 250 nursing staff members in LG hospital. Suspension orders may follow under ESMA.
