Hangout interaction: GTU VC exhorts 1 lakh new-bees to think with novelty

Ahmedabad

In a hi-tech fashion befitting the leading technical education body like Gujarat Technological University (GTU), its Vice Chancellor Dr. Akshai Aggarwal today welcomed the one lakh fresher students online through the Google Hangout and exhorted them to think with novelty to create a niche for them amid the fast-paced development of the country and to create a personal website and blog for each one of them.

Dr. Aggarwal in his online interaction said, “You are joining the technological profession at a time which is truly something which has not happened earlier. Today India is developing at a fast pace. Therefore, we need not depend upon the viewpoint which may have been conveyed to you because of our previous experiences. If people telling that there is an oversupply of engineers or pharmacists or management graduates, that is not true. The fact is government of India has looked at the requirements at comparable levels of development.”

“We have not been able to train engineers, who can produce products of good quality at the lower rate to capture the world market. Today anywhere you go in the world, you will find Chinese product. In India too you have seen many of these, I have seen it in Western world also the markets are full of products from China and they are not from India. That is why our Prime Minister has started talking about Make in India. The idea is to make products in India and sell it into whole world. As soon as we have that competence to produce good quality goods at comparatively cheaper rates, we will be able to sell in whole of the world and of course we will be able to sell the goods in India. India itself has the huge requirements. We have requirements of roads, bridges and technological products. We have requirements of medicines, we have requirements to manage our institutions. It is not that we are not intelligent enough. Intelligence alone does not help, it has to be combined with hard work”, he added.

He advised students that, “Engineering, Management and Pharmacy are very interesting fields. In these fields, when you study, you cannot feel bored. But they become interesting, when you understand things. Technological studies are practical studies. They deal with actual products. They deal with how the product is designed. Therefore these studies cannot be boring. If you feel it boring means we are not able to devote ourselves fully. We have weaknesses at every level, but jointly we can do great things. Make sure that every single class brings you some more knowledge. You are in the university, which has high reputation.”

“Many times we are saying that our students are not able to speak well. They are not able to communicate well. If you work hard, your communication will improve. At GTU, we have Contributor Personality Development Programme (CPDP). This programme is meant to improve your soft skills. Today internet is a cheaper medium. Website or blog making has now became cheaper. Make your website or blog & update it every day. Whatever good thing you are learning, put it on website or blog. Those are thing which have own value. Today your identity is not only determined by certificates, but also from some digital work. Please start thinking about how to create your own website or own blog. Within a month each one of you should have one such website or blog”, he told the students.

“At GTU, you will learn something new every day. So that you can feel more useful to your family, your country. There is a great career after graduation. The only thing you have to prepare yourself. There is no reason why any one of you should not get a good job. GTU has started innovation clubs, which include Open source technology Club, Mobile and Wireless Technology Clubs. You have to start working yourself. We have many students-driven programmes. GTU is determined to see that it remain the best university in the country. GTU organises activities like Techfest, in which more than 30,000 students are participating”, he said.
