In a film sequence like incident of loot, around half a dozen car borne criminals, looted goods worth over Rs 5 crore including 17 kg gold from a private courier’s (Angadiya Pedhi) truck in Bavla area of Ahmedabad district late last night, police said today.
In Charge of Bavla police station P A Raval said that a carrier truck of Ishwarbhai Becharbhai Angadiya Pedhi (private courier) of Ahmedabad was taking a total of 68 parcels including some containing gold to Rajkot. At around 1115 pm, soon as it reached Bavla-Adhoda crossing, one of the criminals dressed like a policemen stopped it.
‘Later, other criminals of the gang seated in a car joined him and they overpowered the driver and two others in the mini truck. They also allegedly snatched the gun of the guard in the truck and took the vehicle forcefully to a nearby secluded place close to Bhayla village and off loaded 27 parcels containing 17 kg gold and other items and fled,’ the PI said.
The possibility of the involvement of an insider in the loot can’t be ruled out, he said adding efforts were on to nab the culprits.
SP (Rural) Nirlipt Rai said that a similar incident of loot of the same courier firm’s vehicle with goods worth around 23 crore had also taken place in 2013 in the area. The culprits were later nabbed from Mahesana and Banaskantha districts.
He said that five different teams have been constituted to nab the culprits. The CCTV footage on the various toll points were also being tracked.
