Anand: Congress today organized its ‘Jav Vedana’ (peoples-grief) conference in this central Gujarat town today in which senior congress leaders including the political adviser of party president Sonia Gandhi and Rajya-Sabha MP Ahmed Patel, AICC general secretary and Gujarat in-charge Gurdas Kamat attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his
demonetization move.
Addressing the conference organized to give voice to the suffering of commoners owing to demonetization, Patel alleged that Modi had hijacked the autonomy of RBI to issue circulars one after the other putting people in even more difficult situation. He also talked about the alleged adverse effects of the move on the economy and the sufferings of the commoners. He said that the Prime minister has mislead the people with demonetization and other populist schemes which have failed miserably. Even the RBI governor Urjit Patel has cheated the nation as he was unable to tell the nation even after 70 days of demonetization as to how much of black money has been deposited in banks.
He also alleged that the condition of railways during Modi regime has deteriorated, Gujarat state has also become an ‘under-debt’ state in the 13 years of BJP rule.
Patel said that Congress would highlight the suffering of common people owing to demonetization through programmes in each of the assembly segments of the state. ‘This country is not your personal estate (jagir), Congress had fought and got freedom for the country,’ he said.
Mr Kamat on the other hand termed the move as a ‘big mad move’ and said that while announcing it at 830 pm in the night of November 8, the prime minister did not bother about the commoners difficulties. ‘Did he think as to how the payment for milk the next day and other such important expenses would be met with. The banks were closed for the two days. No one could ever thought that some one will take such a big mad move,’ he said adding that the people in the country were suffering for the past 3 years in BJP rule.
He also said that Congress was ready for this year’s assembly polls in Gujarat.
Gujarat Congress President Bharatsinh Solanki said that the Prime minister need to be reminded that the Indian economy depends largely on cash transactions. He expressed surprise at the government’s move to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes and issue Rs 2000 notes. Leader of opposition Shankersinh Vaghela claimed that the nexus of several BJP leaders, black marketeers and corrupt bank officials has come to fore in the 70 days of demonetization. MP Deependra Singh Huda and other party leaders also addressed the conference.
