Court extends custody of CBI Inspector in corruption case

Gandhinagar: A special CBI court on Monday extended the custody of CBI inspector, Sandeep Kumar, for two days.

Kumar had absconded after a team of CBI officials attempted to catch him taking a bribe from an assistant superintendent of the fisheries department, Sukar Anjani. Kumar had demanded Rs 10 lakh from Anjani in relation to some inquiry against Anjani. Anjani was expected to give him Rs 1 lakh as the first installment.

On Friday, March 31, Kumar surrendered before the court and was remanded in custody until Monday afternoon. The CBI sought further interrogation for 11 days, citing the need to investigate the gadgets found with Kumar.

Kumar’s lawyer, Amit Nair, opposed the demand, stating that the details could be obtained from the phone recovered from the complainant. He also pointed out that the vehicle details of Kumar are available at the RTO, so there was no reason for further custody. DeshGujarat
