Gujarat CM dedicates Vanpal Memorial in Gandhinagar
September 11, 2023
Gandhinagar: Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel today inaugurated Gujarat’s first ‘Vanpal Memorial’ at Van Chetna Kendra, Gandhinagar, on the occasion of ‘National Forest Martyr’ Day on September 11.
Chief Minister Shri Patel and Forest Minister Shri Mulubhai Bera and others, paid their respects to the eight forest martyrs of Gujarat who sacrificed their lives during the protection and preservation of forests and wildlife. They observed two minutes of silence in honor of these martyrs.
National Forest Martyrs Day has been observed annually since 2013 on September 11 to honor the frontline staff of the forest department, including forest guards, forest rangers, district forest officers, and other officers, who have lost their lives while safeguarding forests and wildlife.
The frontline staff of the Forest Department work tirelessly to protect and nurture forests and wildlife, often at the cost of their own lives. They combat encroachment, illegal logging, poaching, and wildlife-human conflicts. On certain occasions, they even make the ultimate sacrifice.
In memory of these courageous forest workers, the ‘Forester Memorial’ has been constructed at Van Chetna Kendra in Sector-30 of Gandhinagar. DeshGujarat
