Number of Patients from other States increasing in Gujarat due to PMJAY

Ahmedabad: Due to PMJAY scheme, the number of cancer patients from States outside Gujarat has increased at Ahmedabad based Gujarat Cancer Research and Institute (GCRI) from 15 percent to 30 percent in the last four years.
According to Dr. Shashank Pandya, Director of Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute (GCRI), the hospital has registered more than 1 lakh cases of various cancers in the last 4 years. Due to PMJAY, the number of patients coming for Cancer treatment from outside Gujarat was 15 percent earlier, which has increased to 30 to 35 percent of total now.
He further informed that in the last one year (2024), 1043 patients came from Uttar Pradesh, that is, one patient from Uttar Pradesh every day. Patients have also come from Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Tripura, Assam, Mizoram. 14 from Karnataka, 11 from Andhra Pradesh, 9 from Punjab, 8 from Uttaranchal, 4 from Himachal, 4 from Jammu and Kashmir, 4 from Kerala, 7 from Tamil Nadu.
Patients have also come from Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana and Chhattisgarh for treatment. It’s worth noting that under PMJAY, medical services are offered across the nation. The patients therefore chose best place for treatment and travel for that. DeshGujarat
